Chopstick Snails (Stenomelania torulosa) are excellent scavengers and aquarium substrate sifters with a unique, spike-shaped appearance. Though they are native to the warm Sulawesi lakes and other waterways of Indonesia, they can thrive in lower water temperatures than many other Sulawesi animals. These aquarium snails are very slow moving and spend most of their time climbing room aquarium terrain and burrowing in the substrate. They're great at keeping aquarium gravel or soil naturally aerated and free of gases that build up within it, and they can do this without harming aquarium plant roots. Feeding and care is very easy for the hardy Chopstick Snail. It requires the same maintenance and conditions as most tropical snails. It will eat nearly any high-quality dry and frozen foods, but it will also feed on biofilm, and decaying plant matter in the aquarium. It does not harm fish tank plants, so it's completely safe to keep in planted aquariums. They look particularly great in an oak aquarium! These snails are very slow aquarium breeders as well (female snails will only produce one offspring at a time), so you should not have to worry about snail overpopulation in your fish aquarium. They are similar in appearance to Malaysian Trumpet Snails, but do not breed nearly as fast. They are peaceful and thus safe to keep with nonaggressive aquarium fish, dwarf shrimp, large shrimp (such as Bamboo Shrimp), other aquatic snails, and even sometimes a dwarf crayfish, aka freshwater mini lobster (with caution). Basic aquarium supplies are required when raising these snails, such as an LED aquarium bulb or UVB aquarium light.CARE GUIDELINES:- Temperature: 72° - 86° F (22° - 30° C) - pH: 7.0 - 8.2 - KH: 2 - 12 dKH - Minimum tank size: 5 gallons per snail - Average adult size: 1 - 2.5" (2.5 - 3.8 cm) - Average purchase size: 1/2 - 1" (1.3 - 6.4 cm)
